Hindi - Rubana Parveen, an 18-year-old girl from Chandwa Village, south of India last Wednesday married a man named Mumtaz Ansari, 26.
After a wedding reception, according to Indian tradition, the groom may propose dowry or dowry to the bride's family.
At that time Ansari asked for an expensive motorbike dowry. Whereas before marriage, Parveen's father, 58-year-old Bashiruddin Ansar, a hotel owner, had bought Muntaj a motorcycle.
But apparently Muntaj not satisfied and asked for a better and more expensive motorcycle.
"People told him (Ansari) to keep up and they tried to convince him to accept what was given. But he threatened to go home without his new wife. The second father of the bride and then a tough race, " said a witness, as reported by Gulf News, Thursday (27/4).
Finally Rubana decided to call a qazi or a judge and with with the support of his family he proposed a divorce. Parveen's father then asked the Mumtaz family to return all the gifts and dowries already given.
The Mumtaz family felt very embarrassed and wrote a letter of apology and promised to return it all.
The villagers were so angry with Mumtaz's behavior that he was sentenced to wear a necklace from a pair of shoes and inserted "I am greedy with dowry". Residents also then shave off Mumtaz's hair and his older brother.
Still on the same day, that night Parveen's father then found a man who would marry his daughter. He finally contacted the family of Muhammad Elias, 25 who lived about 25 kilometers from his village and arranged the marriage.
That night the wedding parties of Parveen and Elias went as planned.
"I do not regret what happened. I'm happy my daughter does not have to marry a greedy man. He is now happy with his marriage and I pray for him, " said Bashiruddin.
